This Thursday, March 12th, Movie Loft screens the classic and controversial revolution and action movie The Spook Who Sat by the Door. Don’t miss a free screening of a timely film at Shadowbox Studio!
Filmed in 1973 and based on Sam Greenlee's late 1960s novel of the same name, director Ivan Dixon's film remains radical and pointed to this day. The story follows Dan Freeman (Lawrence Cook), the first black man in the CIA, who after years of training moves to Chicago and turns the tables, organizing an uprising against the state. The film’s scenes are all set to a tough soundtrack by Herbie Hancock.
Enjoy food and music before and after the screening! There will be a crate of Jazz Funk greats spinning starting at 7:00, along with hot wieners on the grill. The movie will roll just after 8:00, and more tunes will be played afterward. Movie Loft is presented by Shadowbox Studio and Blastco Productions. Movie Loft is a monthly film screening with accompanying music, bands, sounds, and other fun stuff. Classics to schlock, unheralded gems to timely revivals, the tawdry to the topical, regional interest to worldly flair, Movie Loft plays movies for the sake of movies.
One recurring theme: hot dogs. And free popcorn. Beverages available but BYO is also encouraged. Come out and enjoy a free evening of community fun during The Spook Who Sat by the Door! All are welcome to attend this screening on Thursday night. This event is free, but donations are accepted and appreciated. For more information, visit www.shadowboxstudio.org.
